Current
supplies of energy from wind in Peeblesshire.
.
The
24 wind turbines on Bow Beat have an installed capacity to
produce 31.2*24*365= 273312 MWh (Megawatt hours or 1000
electrical
units) each year but in fact produced only 74566MWh, or just over a
quarter of this, in 2007. E.ON, the owners, say that this is
sufficient energy to provide electricity for 18,000 homes
based on a daily consumption per house of 13 KWh a day. This level of
consumption would probably not include heating the house. If it assumed
that the mean energy consumption for a person per day, including
heating, travel and food is 120 KWh a day, the energy from the
Bow beat is enough for only 1,700 people
